It took a few years to decide what we were going to do with the Laundry Room floor.
Trust me you don't want to rush these things.
At least, that's what I tell myself to make me feel better.
When we moved into this old house 10 years ago, this was where our kitchen was located. Although it makes a nice size laundry room, it made a terribly small kitchen. The kind of kitchen where you could only open one appliance at a time. And if anyone wanted to join you in the kitchen, you could forget it or risk going mad!
Well here is the finished floor.
It's VCT tile bought in 12 x 12 tiles and cut. We special ordered these tiles from our local hardware store. We found that hardware stores only carry a few colors and of course they are not the colors we wanted.
Each tile had to be cut. It was so much fun, but my husband would tell you otherwise.
We rented this tile cutter. Next time we would just purchase one, they are relatively cheap at $50.
Next we laid out the pattern. At each thresh holds we made a different pattern. We thought this was a nice detail because an old houses is all about the details.
Then the glue goes down. See my husband smiling...yes that didn't last long. The glue dried fast and once the piece was down it was a struggle to move. We finished in the wee hours of the morning.
The finished floor, isn't it beautiful?
We have lots of pieces left, we think we will use them the various closets throughout the house that have old VCT tiles that are missing and peeling back because of age. I wonder if I can make my husband smile with an more detailed pattern?
